Research Opportunities Original research is central to UChicago’s mission. Generating new knowledge for the benefit of present and future generations, UChicago research has had an impact around the globe, leading to such breakthroughs as discovering the link between cancer and genetics and establishing revolutionary theories of economics. Over 80 percent of undergraduate students choose to engage in research, and many more gain hands-on experience through internships, externships, student activities, and course practicums. UChicago students have access to over 160 research centers and committees. Any student at UChicago who chooses to can get involved in research in a huge range of disciplines, starting their first year on campus. • Our new major Inquiry and Research in the Humanities (IRHUM) is intended for students who wish to design and pursue humanities research projects under close mentorship of faculty. IRHUM is designed to work well as a double major. Entrepreneurship Education UChicago is a premier destination for young entrepreneurs and their future ventures. Positioned in Chicago, a city recognized as one of the best for entrepreneurship, UChicago’s Careers in Entrepreneurship Program—offered through the Office of Career Advancement— focuses on giving students opportunities to explore the entrepreneurial experience. Speakers, workshops, and other training sessions offer opportunities to speak directly to entrepreneurs and investors, while experiential opportunities like competitions, treks and internships create opportunities to create first-hand knowledge. • Students have opportunities to put their ideas into practice in competitions such as the College New Venture Challenge. Student teams are formed to propose sustainable, socially responsible enterprises that benefit the community—whether that ’s the University, the nation, or the world. • UChicago’s Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a top-ranked university incubator. The Polsky Center operates the Polsky Exchange, a 34,000 square foot startup hub featuring coworking space, a state-of-the-art Fabrication Lab, and a full calendar of programming and workshops designed to help entrepreneurs translate their ideas and technologies into startups. A University of Chicago education is about more than gaining a set of skills, achieving a rite of passage, or even honing the ability to think critically. It is a way of experiencing and moving through the world. Alongside our world-renowned liberal arts Core curriculum are research- and entrepreneurship-based experiential learning opportunities that prepare our students for challenging careers and competitive graduate schools. • The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) provides a unique opportunity to pursue molecular level science in both academic and research contexts. Engineering and physical sciences students explore and advance the development of technologies across a wide range of research themes, including all components of quantum information processing: sensing, computation, storage, and communication • For students seeking extracurricular research opportunities across the academic disciplines and internationally, the College Center for Research & Fellowships (CCRF) is the home for undergraduate scholarly research.
